Xavier Jaravel

Xavier Jaravel is Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science and, since March 2025, Chair (Président délégué) of the Conseil d'analyse économique (CAE), the independent body that advises the French Prime Minister on economic policy.

His research covers inclusive growth, innovation, inflation, and inequality and has been published in leading academic journals. According to the 2025 IDEAS/RePEc ranking, he is the most cited academic economist in the world whose first publication dates from the last ten years.

Jaravel is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and affiliated with the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). He is a Visiting Scholar at the Collège de France and co-edits the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics. From 2020 to 2022, he served as a member of the Inspection générale des finances and chaired the evaluation committee for France Relance.

He received the Best Young French Economist Prize (Le Monde / Cercle des économistes, 2021), the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Economics (2019), and the Prix du livre d'économie (2023) for Marie Curie habite dans le Morbihan. Démocratiser l’innovation.

He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and a degree from Sciences Po Paris.
