Tobi Lütke

Tobi Lütke is the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Shopify, the leading cloud-based, multichannel commerce platform for entrepreneurs. After moving to Canada from Germany in 2002, Lütke began building software to launch an online snowboard store called Snowdevil. It quickly became obvious that the software was more valuable than the snowboards, so Lütke and his founding team launched the Shopify platform in 2006; he has served as CEO since 2008. He also worked on the core team of the Ruby on Rails framework upon which Shopify is built, and created many popular open source libraries, including Active Merchant.

With Shopify, merchants can design, set up and manage their stores across multiple sales channels, including web, mobile, social media, marketplaces, brick-and-mortar locations and pop-up shops. The platform also provides merchants with a powerful back office and a single view of their business. Shopify was engineered for reliability and scale, using enterprise-level technology made available to businesses of all sizes. The company currently powers more than 600,000 merchants in approximately 175 countries.

Shopify had its initial public offering in May 2015, and is listed on the New York and Toronto stock exchanges as SHOP.
