Simon Grimm

Simon Grimm is an editor at Works in Progress, where he focuses on AI and European progress.

His personal writing covers European AI policy, compute infrastructure, and the regulatory constraints on AI adoption in Europe. He has contributed policy briefs to the Institute for Progress and to the Techno-Industrial Policy Playbook.

Before joining Works in Progress, Grimm spent three years at the Nucleic Acid Observatory at MIT — now SecureBio Detection — where he worked on pathogen early detection through metagenomic biosurveillance. His academic work has been published in The Lancet Microbe and the Journal of Aerosol Science, and he has co-authored policy reports on scaling pathogen early detection in the United States.

Grimm is a medical doctor by training.
