Leopold Aschenbrenner

Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Situational Awareness LP

Leopold Aschenbrenner is Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Situational Awareness LP, an investment firm focused on artificial general intelligence.

In June 2024, he published Situational Awareness: The Decade Ahead, a widely read essay on the trajectory toward AGI, the scaling of compute and algorithmic progress, and the security and geopolitical implications of advanced AI systems.

Before founding the firm, Aschenbrenner was a member of OpenAI's Superalignment team, which worked on the technical challenge of controlling AI systems more capable than humans. Earlier, he researched long-run economic growth at Oxford's Global Priorities Institute.

Aschenbrenner graduated as valedictorian from Columbia University at 19, with a major in economics and mathematics-statistics.
