Lars-Hendrik Röller

Lars-Hendrik Röller is Professor of Economics at ESMT Berlin, Founder and Chairman of the Berlin Global Dialogue, and a Director at E.CA Economics. His research and teaching focus on the interlinkages of economics, business, and society, with a special focus on geopolitical risks.

From 2011 to 2021, Röller served as Chief Economic Adviser to German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and as Germany's G7 and G20 Sherpa. He was previously President of ESMT Berlin (2006–2011) and the first Chief Economist at DG Competition of the European Commission (2003–2006).

Earlier in his academic career, he was Professor of Economics at INSEAD and at Humboldt University, Berlin, and directed the research unit on Competitiveness and Industrial Change at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.

Röller has served as Chairman of the German Economic Association and President of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics. He is a Fellow of the European Economic Association, a Distinguished Fellow of CEPR, and a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. In 2002, he received the Gossen Prize.

Röller holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also earned an MA in Economics and an MSc in Artificial Intelligence. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from Texas A&M University.
