Karien van Gennip

Karien van Gennip is a member of the Supervisory Board of ASML, where she sits on the ESG Committee and the Remuneration Committee. She served as Minister of Social Affairs and Employment of the Netherlands from 2022 to 2024 and as Deputy Prime Minister from September 2023. Her portfolio included labour market policy, working conditions, labour migration, and social security. She is also a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and serves on several for-profit and non-profit boards and committees.

Earlier in her political career, she served as State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Minister for Foreign Trade (2003–2007) and was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006.

Van Gennip has broad experience in the private sector. She was CEO of VGZ, one of the largest health insurers in the Netherlands, and held executive positions at ING Group, including CEO of ING France. She began her career at McKinsey & Company in Amsterdam and San Francisco. In 2017, she was elected Vice-Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce. She served among others on the Boards of INSEAD, TomTom, SOS Children’s Villages and Cordaid.

Van Gennip studied Applied Physics at Delft University of Technology and holds an MBA from INSEAD. She is a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau and a Knight of the French Legion of Honour.
