Jörg Kukies

Jörg Kukies joined Morgan Stanley in May 2026 in London and will relocate to Frankfurt in November, where he will assume the role of Country Head of Morgan Stanley in Germany and Austria and, subject to regulatory approval, be appointed CEO and Chairman of the Management Boards of Morgan Stanley Europe SE Group. He served as Germany’s Federal Minister of Finance from November 2024 to May 2025.

Kukies was appointed State Secretary for Financial Market Policy and European Policy at the Federal Ministry of Finance in April 2018. When Olaf Scholz became Chancellor in 2021, he moved to the Federal Chancellery as State Secretary, heading the departments of Economic, Financial and Climate Policy and European Policy. He also served as the Chancellor's personal representative at the G7 and G20. He was appointed Federal Minister of Finance in November 2024 following the collapse of the coalition government.

Before entering government, Kukies spent 17 years at Goldman Sachs, rising to Co-CEO of Goldman Sachs AG and Managing Director of its Frankfurt branch (2014–2018). He previously headed equity derivatives for Europe, the Middle East and Africa from London (2011–2014) and led the equities division for Germany and Austria from Frankfurt (2007–2011).

Kukies holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, a Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (McCloy Scholar), and studied economics at the University of Mainz and at Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris.
