Carlos Torres Vila

Carlos Torres Vila has been Chair of BBVA since December 2018.

Previously, he served as CEO of the bank from May 2015, having been appointed Head of Digital Banking in March 2014. He joined BBVA in September 2008 as Head of Strategy and Corporate Development, and as a member of the bank's Management Committee.

Before joining BBVA, he was CFO of Endesa from 2007, having joined the company in 2002 as Corporate Director of Strategy and a member of its Executive Committee. Earlier in his career, he was a Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he worked for 12 years.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Finance (IIF), the International Business Council (IBC) of the World Economic Forum, the European Financial Services Roundtable (EFR), and the Institut International d'Études Bancaires (IIEB). He also represents BBVA at the International Monetary Conference (IMC).

He chairs the BBVA Foundation and is a member of several not-for-profit organisations that support entrepreneurship and innovation, such as the Board of Trustees of Endeavor Spain, Fundación Cotec and Círculo de Empresarios Vascos. He also represents BBVA in several not-for-profit organisations that support social, educational, cultural and scientific activities, most notably the Museo Nacional del Prado, Fundación Princesa de Asturias, Fundación Carolina and Fundación Real Instituto Elcano.

Torres Vila graduated with a BSc in Electrical Engineering and a BSc in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he later also earned an MSc at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He also graduated in Law from UNED (Spain).
